The Kroonstad Youth Development Campaign is the first of its kind to be ever hosted in the northern Free-State Province.

The campaign aims at encouraging youths to become independent and active in the development of the province, the country as well as to create an attitude of responsibility in them.

This campaign also aims at providing youth with information about various opportunities and careers that are currently available in South Africa. Access to information is crucial for the development of the youth in Kroonstad and the surrounding areas.

The campaign will create a safe, respectful, and celebratory atmosphere with structured learning and information opportunities where youth can use it to their advantage and succeed.

There are many responsibilities on our youth. The youth is responsible to build the nation, responsible to make the society good and noble, improve the community and culture of society. If the youth understands their responsibilities, a large number of crimes, substance abuse, women and child abuse, teen pregnancies may be reduced with such development programs coming into the townships and communities that are not as privileged as those in big cities and other provinces.

With the lifestyle challenges of this country marked by abuse of alcohol, irresponsible sexual behavior, HIV, unemployment and lack of service delivery. South Africa needs responsible, determined and hardworking youth with dreams and goals of a better future.

The 3 day Campaign will include activities such as:

Motivational talks and Debates

Exhibition ( Business and Careers)

Soccer & Netball Tournament on the last day

The Campaign will target the youth from the Moqhaka area which compromises of 3 towns namely Kroonstad, Viljoenskroon and Steynsrus, of all these towns no such expo has ever been hosted that is open to both students and the unemployed youth.

The objectives of the expo are as follows:

To create a network of youth organizations committed to combating poverty and unemployment in the Moqhaka Area.

To instill a spirit of unity amongst the youth, the learners, the schools, teachers and principals.

Most importantly to expose the youth of The Moqhaka Local Municipality to information and assistance never received before.

The expo is a communication and resource base for exhibitors, to inform and guide the entire public visiting the expo.

Closing

An expo of this magnitude on an annual basis will be a great eye opener to the youth of all three towns being Kroonstad, Viljoenskroon and Steynsrus to bursary opportunities, learnership programs offered and employment opportunities as well as a chance to access the different databases for job registration purposes.

The second Annual Mangaung Youth Empowerment week will be held from the 18th to the 21 of April 2012 in Bloemfontein.

We all know that there are many challenges facing young people in the Free-State. These include lack of access to information, very limited business opportunities, health issues like HIV and Aids, unemployment, alcoholism, drug dependency and in the worst case scenario, a sense of hopelessness. Surely, there is a need for different ways of dealing with these challenges and it required involvement of youths, government, non governmental organisations and the proliferating private sector.

The government goal of having a country where millions more of South Africans have decent employment opportunities, with an exalted modern infrastructure and a vibrant economy, and where the quality of life is high can be achieved using platform such as the Free State Career Focus week where active young people that are working for various companies including government institutions or running their own business will put their head together in finding solutions to the socio economic problems they are currently facing. It is the responsibility of all to work hard to make this a reality.

Objectives

.

(i) To Support national and provincial priorities and government initiatives.

(ii) To Co-ordinate the skills, strategy, resources, policy and procedures of the Parties.

(iii) To create platform for co-operation with all relevant stakeholders, including relevant government representatives, non-governmental organisations and strategic partners.

(iv) To Lead to meaningful interventions in and contributions to the development and growth of communities beyond financial support for organisations.

(v) To Empower poor and under-developed communities and facilitate sustainable human development through the provision and development of knowledge skills and other resources.

(vi) To focus on outcomes and not just inputs by assigning value to the improvement of peoples’ lives.

(vii) To promote investments that improve people’s well being and enhance their skills and capacity to take care of their individual and collective needs through education.

(vii) To promote empowering individuals and communities to gain independence and self-sufficiency.

Last Year, The Free State Guide hosted the first ever Mangaung Youth Empowerment Day in order to assist young people from the Free-State with teeming Careers and Business opportunities. More than a thousand young people visited the exhibition area which was held at the Bloemfontein city hall. Many young people were spotted waiting outside the city hall before the official opening of the hall. The remarkable presence of the defence force, National government departments, the Setas, and the live broadcast from Lesedi FM attracted many young people to the city hall in search of new opportunities.

The event was also marked with the visit and address by the deputy minister of Public Works, Ms. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, as well as the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Benedict Martins.

This year, the event has been extended to a week of empowering activities which kicks off by a media opportunity for young people to ask questions about government programs for youth empowerment. This will be followed by a Networking Session with young entrepreneurs of Mangaung who will work on creating a database that will assist them to interact and also interchange information and businesses. The registered businesses will also be able to exhibit during the expo day where organisers are expecting close to 1000 people to visit the expo.

Only Open minded entrepreneurs with unique ideas , products and services will be accepted to join this network. The criteria for choosing like-minded people is based on a common entrepreneurship personality trait of wanting to take active control of the future and starting to build professional empires in the Free-State province so as to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. Hence , only registered and approved SMMEs will be allowed to exhibit and network with other businesses so to protect the integrity of businesses and also keep the intimacy in order to add value to people’s lives. The participants will be able to interact with each other and discuss issues pertaining to their enterprises as well as use the opportunity to look for new markets and opportunities.

Organisers who have a strong stand against tenderpreneurship and favouritism hope that business working together will fight corruption. FS Guide is calling on real entrepreneurs to identify other opportunities outside of government tenders and channel their energies in the right direction.

The Mangaung Youth Empowerment week is a shining example of what can be achieved when a group of Professionals are serious enough about their futures. Organisers really hope to go into an in-depth understanding of the challenges that are facing businesses and seek solutions as well as action for an intervention.
